Undergrads: Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP)

The University of Washington School of Medicine Center for Health Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (CEDI) in collaboration with the Schools of Dentistry and Public Health is hosting the Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP).  This program formerly known as SMDEP has grown to include health professions beyond medicine and dentistry and we would love your assistance in getting the word out.

This 6 week residential program targets underrepresented and disadvantaged freshman and sophomore college students interested in the health professions. SHPEP’s goal is to strengthen the academic proficiency and career development of students underrepresented in the health professions and prepare them for a successful application and matriculation to health professions schools.

This program is housed at 13 campuses across the nation. Each site provides scholars with academic enrichment in the basic sciences and math, clinical experiences, career development activities, learning and study skills seminars, and financial planning. The UW program provides housing, room and board, a $600 stipend paid in two installments, and travel assistance.

The application process opened November 1, and for the first time is open to DACA students as well.  The deadline for priority consideration is February 1.

To apply online and for additional information, you can visit the national site at shpep.org.
