IMPORTANT DEADLINES!

College students from across Washington state are invited to apply for student innovation and new venture competitions hosted by UW Foster School of Business’ Buerk Center for Entrepreneurship.
Apr 2  |  Business Plan Competition, Questions? Amy: ASallin@uw.edu

APPLY: Entrepreneurship Certificate (non-MBA graduate students)

Open to all non-MBA graduate and PhD students.

The Buerk Center’s certificate in entrepreneurship prepares University of Washington graduate and PhD students for the world of start-ups and new technology enterprises. Our emphasis on cross-campus involvement means you’ll take entrepreneurship courses alongside students from other disciplines, work with UW inventors on their market-ready applications, and have the opportunity to apply for fellowships in UW technology ventures or local angel funds. Certificate students, whose disciplines range from engineering and architecture to drama and medicine, take classes, gain real-world experience, and network with the region’s most innovative entrepreneurs. Working together, students bring ideas to life. Rolling admissions.

Are you planning to enter the Business Plan Competition with a consumer product or retail, software or app, or a non-profit? Get advice from mentors in the entrepreneurial community by registering for our Workshop on Saturday, March 3!

Details:

This free pre-screening workshop will give you valuable feedback on the first draft of your BPC entry, a 5–7 page executive summary, and an early opportunity to work on your elevator pitch. Your summary will be reviewed by three to four experts in advance, who will then work with you during the workshop. We’ll also hear from past participants, who will talk about what they did to prepare to enter the BPC themselves.

Schedule/Location:

Anthony’s Executive Forum (Dempsey Hall, 3rd floor)

9:30–10:00 am: Coffee & breakfast

10:00–11:30: Pitch your idea, review your plan, get feedback from mentors

11:30–noon: Panel of past participants

Noon: Lunch and networking

Preparation/Deadlines:

You must register by Monday, February 26 at 8 am.

Submit your initial working draft of your 5-7 page executive summary in PDF format to Amy Sallin via email by Tuesday, February 27 at noon.

Use this Screening Round Judging Criteria Checklist to help get started and to frame your work. Find assorted resources on the BPC website. Click on the Preparation tab; scroll down to the “Learn by Example” section to view 5-7 page summaries from past participants. Stop by the Buerk Center (Dempsey Hall 227) to view additional summaries from past participants. Use the Startup Resources page to find articles and tools to help you prepare.

Note: Participation is limited to students who are entering the Business Plan Competition for the first time, and are specifically working on a plan in the following categories: Consumer Product/Retail, Software/IT/Apps, or Non-Profit/Social Entre. Students who have taken part in the BPC in prior years, or have applied to the Health Innovation Challenge (HIC), the Environmental Innovation Challenge (EIC), or any BPC at other college or university, may not apply for this workshop.
